India-Pak World Cup game in Ahmedabad: Date to change, not venue: Jay Shah

The date for the India versus Pakistan encounter at the upcoming Cricket World Cup will change but the venue for the crunch clash will still be Ahmedabad, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced on Thursday. The Indian Express had reported on Wednesday that the India-Pakistan World Cup clash was likely to be rescheduled from October 15 as it clashed with the first day of Navratri.

Since Navratri festival is celebrated with great pomp and with mass participation at garba nights across Gujarat, security agencies had reportedly advised the BCCI to tweak the itinerary.

Late last month, when the ICC announced the World Cup schedule, the nearly 1-lakh-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium got four marquee games – the tournament opener between New Zealand and England, India vs Pakistan, England vs Australia, and the final. The event will be held in 10 cities, with the semifinals to be held in Mumbai and Kolkata.

Shah also said that three ICC member boards had reached out to the BCCI to request changes in the dates of a few matches. He did not name the boards, and it is still unclear whether the Pakistan Cricket Board is one of them.

Shah also announced that BCCI will not be appealing against Harmanpreet Kaur’s ban, which was imposed on her for her outburst during the recent series against Bangladesh. He added that BCCI president Roger Binny and NCA head VVS Laxman will question Harmanpreet over her outburst during the third ODI against Bangladesh.

The BCCI secretary also announced that ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah was “100 percent fit” and could travel to Ireland. Meanwhile, it is learnt that England A will travel to India while India A will go to South Africa A in the year.
