Glenn Maxwell reveals why he was left out of RCB vs SRH clash: ‘I went to the coaches last game said it was time to probably try someone else’

On Monday during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) left Glenn Maxwell out of the side. While it was quite a big move from the franchise, the form of Maxwell has been in steep decline this season. However, the Australian all-rounder would reveal that he went to the RCB leadership group and said it was “time to probably try someone else.”

“I went to (Royal Challengers captain Faf du Plessis) and the coaches last game and said it was time to probably try someone else. I have been in this situation before, where you can keep playing and dig yourself into a hole. Now is the best time to give myself a mental and physical break.” Maxwell told the reporters.

“Wasn’t contributing positively,” he would acknowledge. In the ongoing season thus far in six games, Maxwell made 32 runs at an average of 5.33. “After the first few games hadn’t gone to plan personally for me,” he added.

Maxwell’s lack of form combined with an inexperienced Indian middle order and some indifferent bowling from the side resulted in them just winning one game from six. “With our results this year, it was quite an easy decision. We haven’t been playing as well as we would have liked as a team, and the results show that.

“My results have reflected the results we have had. Pretty big deficiency straight after the Powerplay and the middle overs, which have been an area of strength of mine the last couple of seasons.,” Maxwell added.

At the bottom of the table

With the 25-run loss against SRH on Monday RCB are at the bottom of the table. The side also conceded 287 runs which is the highest total in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The bowling has looked clueless while the assault was on. Dinesh Karthik’s heroics made sure RCB reached as close to the target as possible to avoid a massive dent in the Net Run Rate.
