Shubman Gill undergoes further scans, recovering in hotel

India’s opening batsman Shubman Gill who missed their opening World Cup fixture against Australia on Sunday because of dengue has been advised two more days of rest by the doctors. Gill, who stayed back in Chennai as the rest of the team headed to Delhi for the match against Afghanistan, underwent multiple tests on Monday and Tuesday at a local hospital here and is currently recovering at a hotel.

The Indian Express understands that Gill, who has been recovering at his hotel room ever since he landed in Chennai last Tuesday, complained of fatigue on Monday evening and was taken to a private hospital. With his platelet count dropping down because of dengue, he was attended to by the doctors.

As a precautionary measure and scans lined up on Tuesday morning, he spent the night at the hospital before leaving to the hotel. It is learnt that the doctors have advised him two more days of rest and if his blood platelet count improves, could join the team in Ahmedabad ahead of India’s match against Pakistan on October 14.

However, given the fatigue factor, it is highly unlikely that Gill would take the field against Pakistan.
