Glenn Maxwell misses out Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Glenn Maxwell will sit out Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Indian Premier League match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad match on Monday, as per captain Faf du Plessis at the toss. Mohammed Siraj was also not in the Playing XI but was named in the substitutes bench.

“We haven’t played our best cricket. Feels like most of the times we haven’t played to our full potential. We have made changes to see if we can turn it around. Maxwell is sitting out, Siraj is sitting out. Ferguson is coming in,” du Plessis said.

This comes a day after Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Director of Cricket Mo Bobat admitted that some high-profile players in their ranks have failed to deliver and hinted at possible changes in the team.

“There’s no hiding away from the fact that we haven’t played the way we want to play. Some of our high-profile players haven’t performed in the way they want to. Ultimately, the players would be expecting to go out and deliver probably better than they have done. We’ve already looked at a couple of different personnel changes. We’ll continue to think about whether any selection changes can enhance the team,” he said.

Bobat, however, had also assured on Sunday that Maxwell was fit to play after some concerns were raised when the Australian had suffered a hit on his thumb while fielding in RCB’s previous match against Mumbai Indians.

“Maxi has had a couple of scans, and he’s okay at the minute. So, there’s no injury concerns. He’s going to practice today and get more of a feel,” Bobat had said in the pre-match press meet.

Festive offer

Speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar had said Maxwell would only score against the balls below his waist height.

“He has been unable to play fast bowling, period. Balls bouncing to his chest or shoulder height are troubling him. He can whack every ball below his waist height but not the ones above that.

In India, the weather till April 20 favours fast bowling on Indian tracks. And when the pacers will reap success, Maxwell will surely find himself at the receiving end. It is just as we say in Hindi, “Naam Bade Par Darshan Chhote,” Gavaskar said.

“And it’s not just Maxwell. Several big-ticket players are finding it difficult to read bowling. So when he gets out in the match, the balls that remain low, he will score against them,” he added.

Maxwell has had a nightmare IPL season scoring just 32 runs from 6 matches while Siraj haven’t been in form as well with just 4 wickets from 6 matches, conceding 229 runs at an average of 57.25 with an economy rate of 10.41.
