‘Generally, I take such catches on other’s bowling’: Ravindra Jadeja in awe of Virat Kohli’s one-handed stunner

Ravindra Jadeja lauded Virat Kohli for taking an exceptional low catch to dismiss Romario Shepherd off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling in the first ODI against West Indies on Thursday.

It was in the 18th over of the West Indies innings, when Jadeja got a good amount of turn and found an outside edge of Shepherd’s bat, who went for a drive, and Virat Kohli patrolling at the second slip took a brilliant one-handed low catch falling to hiw right.

Mai har baar logon ki bowling pe catch pakadta hun, meri bowl pe bhi koi itna catch pakadega ye dekh kar acha laga (Generally, I take such catches on other’s bowling, but it felt good that somebody took it on my bowling),” Jadeja told Kuldeep Yadav in a video posted by BCCI.TV.

Virat Kohli took a fabulous catch. It was low and Kohli held it wonderfully. He didn’t get any time to react, he got only one second to react and he grabbed it. Even Shubman also grabbed a nice low catch.

“On wickets like these, fielders need to support the bowlers and that in turn helps to boost the confidence of players, because you need to convert those half chances,” he added.

Jadeja (3/37) and Kuldeep (4/6) shared seven wickets between them in India’s five-wicket win over West Indies.

“Fast bowlers bowled well. Mukesh bowled well on his debut. You ran through their middle order and then I took the rest. We bowled well as a unit,” said Kuldeep, when asked about his player of the match performance.

Jadeja admitted that it was a difficult pitch to bat on as bowl was spinning too much.

“Plan was to be economical. It got more difficult in the second innings. Ball was not coming onto the bat easily. It was spinning a lot. As a unit we hunted in pair,” said Jadeja.

The teams will play the second ODI on Saturday, also in Bridgetown, followed by the third and final ODI next Tuesday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
