Italy’s World Cup winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has called it quits to a 28-year long professional football career at the age of 45.

Taking to his social media, Buffon – who had returned to his first club Parma back in 2021 – took to his social media to post the statement, “That’s all folks! You gave me everything. I gave you everything. We did it together.”
Buffon had already retired from international football back in 2018 after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup in Russia.
He had been the number one for Italy when they lifted the trophy back in 2006 after defeating France in the penalty shootout in Berlin.
During his club career, Buffon won 10 Serie A titles with Juventus – for whom he played in 526 outings – and a Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint Germain.
Having featured for Italy’s Old Lady in his second stint between 2019 and 2021, Buffon took would return to his boyhood club Parma, where he 43 more games to add to his earlier tally of 168.
